An open conversation and collaborative session to shape the forthcoming open call for the MA Ghana Exhibition in collaboration with DēpArt and Ɛdan.
Join us on Saturday 2nd August 2025 at Palm Moments in Accra for a special afternoon of collective dreaming, reflection, and co-creation as we begin to shape the second iteration of the MA Exhibition, launching this December in Ghana.
Hosted by Selasi Setufe MBE and Carina Tenewaa Kanbi, this gathering invites artists, designers, thinkers, and cultural practitioners to reflect on matrilineal legacies and how they live through space, memory, and everyday gestures. This communal space will lay the foundations for a forthcoming open call for contributions to the December exhibition.
We’ll explore questions like:
What does a matrilineal space feel, look, or sound like?
How do we hold, represent, and share matrilineal memory?
Who needs to be centred in our invitation, and how can we write a truly inclusive call for artists?
The afternoon will include a mixture of storytelling, discussion, and small group reflection. Guests will be invited to bring a personal offering: a photograph, an object from home, a passage from a book, or a memory that evokes matri-centred space from their childhood. These contributions will help us build a collective language around matrilineal architecture and representation, rooted in Ghanaian and broader West African contexts.
We’ll also share reflections from the 2025 London exhibition, including sound works by Ɛdan and documentation from Black Females in Architecture (BFA), before closing with a collaborative exercise to begin drafting the invitation for this year’s open call.
